Jan. 12 Update: COVID-19 Testing Information

The Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) made several changes to testing requirements for student and staff to stay in, or return to school:

The following is a summary of the changes:

1.    A negative result using the Abbott BinaxNOW Rapid test (results in 15 minutes) or other rapid antigen test are now permissible for symptomatic students and staff to return to school under the following conditions:
a.    There is no known exposure to a person testing positive for COVID-19
b.    Symptoms are improving
c.    Fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication

If an individual meets the above criteria, students and staff can obtain a rapid antigen test at one of the BOCES 2 testing sites by appointment only. Call 352-2414 and you will be given a time and location where testing is taking place the next day. Your name will be given to the testing nurse. NO WALK-INS ARE PERMITTED as testing sites will continue to perform weekly screening tests for unvaccinated staff and students.

Home tests are not acceptable tests for return to school/work.

2.    A fully vaccinated individual with no symptoms can stay in school/work if exposed to a person testing positive for COVID-19 if;
a.    They have no symptoms of COVID-19
b.    They wear a mask (in and out of school) for 14 days from date of exposure per CDC guidance
c.    It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to get a COVID-19 test 5-7 days after date of exposure

As always, should you have questions about your particular scenario, please reach out to COVID Coordinator Karen Brown at [email protected] or 352-2420.
